Revealing of Lower Austrian Soil Plate at Mold on July 6, 2009
On July 6, 2009 at Mold the Lower Austrian soil plate was revealed offically.
„Active soil protection, this means to Lower Austria: Yes, we will develop settlements in an orderly fashion, yes, we stand for environment-friendly, production-oriented soil and agricultural cultivation, and yes, we realize the crucial role of soil as a water storage tank in the field of preventive flood protection", says Landesrat of Environmental Affairs, Dr. Stephan Pernkopf on the occasion of the revealing of the soil plate of the Lower Austrian Compost and Biogas Consortium at Mold.
The two-metres‘ „N"-plate with the typical soil of the municipality shall in the future, together with an informative accompanying plate, draw the attention of the inhabitants of the municipality and of visitors to the soil and its qualities.
The members of the Lower Austrian Compost & Biogas Consortium run 67 compost and 60 biogas plants, and annually they convert about 124,000 tons of biological waste and green waste into compost. The Consortium is besides one of four Lower Austrian partner organizations, which have entered the European Land and Soil Alliance. If the 51 Lower Austrian member municipalities of the Land and Soil Alliance are added, in Lower Austria there are already 55 members of the European Land and Soil Alliance. Concerning the density of partners of the Alliance and the practice-oriented campaign "Our soil", Lower Austria is thus a model region in Europe and top of the EU.
